As Shane stated in his previous post, this is the time of the year when you really start to get excited if your a wrestling fan.  This year’s card is stacking up to be pretty awesome looking and honestly looks like a good bit of talent will be showcased on the grandest stage of them all this year. All eyes are focused of course on The Rock vs John Cena match. There isn’t a wrestling fan out there that doesn’t want to see this match and honestly it being billed front and center the way it is has me remembering the last time something similar like this happened.

Wrestlemania x8, to this day I find myself still popping in the DVD and watching this one from time to time. I have so many fond memories from this one. I had just gotten back into wrestling the previous year and can remember watching RAW with my friends Chris and Phil when The Rock stormed the ring to put an arrogant Hogan in his place and challenge him to a match and an opportunity to headline “…one more Wrestlemania!”

Now it’s no secret I’m not the biggest Hogan fan in the world but I had appreciated the good things he had done for the business. I knew as soon as Rock was in Hogan’s face that this was a big deal. A mega star from my childhood was actually going to have a match against one of my favorite wrestlers of all time.

That year we saw Rob Van Dam defeat William Regal for the Intercontinental Championship (The IC Title has not been defended at Wrestlemania since. After 10 Years that changes this year at Wrestlemania 28) DDP retained the European Championship against Christian, Maven vs Goldust for The Hardcore Championship where the 24/7 rule ran rampant. Kurt Angle defeated Kane, The Undertaker defeated Ric Flair, Steve Austin defeated Scott Hall w/ Kevin Nash, Billy and Chuck defended the tag titles against The APA, The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy Boyz. Jazz retained the Women’s Championship against Trish Stratus and Lita & Triple H defeated Chris Jericho for The WWE Championship.

That year’s Wrestlemania had a pretty solid card but all eyes were focused on The Rock vs Hulk Hogan. Fast forward to 10 Years later and here we are again seeing something we never thought we would ever see. Just like back than I know this is gonna be huge and I for one can’t wait until Sunday.
