Tonight, WWE revealed the newest entrant into their Hall of Fame Class of 2013. Now given the fact that we lost arguably the best manager of all time recently, I assumed that this would be the night that Paul Bearer would be enshrined. Little did I know that Mr. “5-time, shucky ducky quack quack” Booker T would be the surprise announcement!

A little backstory before I proceed: I have been to numerous tapings of Raw/Smackdown. There have been 2 times I returned to my childhood momentarily and marked out hard. The first seeing “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan live (only to be destroyed by Umaga in mere seconds). The 2nd you ask? Booker T coming out to announce on Smackdown! in Roanoke. Little did the people around me know that I could hold “Sssuuuccckkkaaa” for entirely too long for a human being. I’m pretty sure that the sweet elderly lady in front of me lost her hearing entirely that glorious night, but, she now has a memorable wrestling story.

Booker T is one of my favorites, ever. It’s a well known fact that I’m a walking encyclopedia of WCW knowledge. Harlem Heat is probably my 2nd favorite tag team from that era only behind the Steiner Brothers. I remember in 1994 the first time they won the titles. In the following couple of years, they had feuds with the the Steiners, American Males,The Outsiders, Luger/Sting, etc. Their 10 title reigns as tag team champions was a record for WCW that stood until the company shut it doors down in 2001.

In 1997, Booker T began to show that he could hold his own as a singles performer. Numerous times as TV Champion solidified that fact. Although Harlem Heat reunited a couple of times, you could tell that Booker was destined to become a singles competitor. As the title suggests, Booker ended up with WCW’s main belt 5 times. Each time he reached the mountain top, you could see a maturity in his overall character and you knew that he DESERVED to be in the position as “the guy”.

Through all of his accomplishment, my favorite time span of his career was him teaming with Goldust. If you’ve ever read my other posts (maybe a few?), sometimes I just need a good laugh. This pairing was a match made in heaven for yours truly. Their interactions with the Rock, Evolution, and each other were comedic genius. The 2 played off each other perfectly and their styles meshed almost as good as Booker did with his brother in Harlem Heat.

5-time WCW champion, King of the Ring winner, a plethora of Tag titles, TV,US, Hardcore, and Intercontinental titles, a Grand Slam and Triple crown winner… All in 1 career. Now I can dig that, SUCKA!!!
